Whatever your interests and hobbies, there’s no shortage of attractions, events and natural beauty in the towns and landscapes surrounding Raylands Park. From shopping trips to stately home visits, sports and family activities, this wonderful corner of the UK really does have it all. Here we’ve shared a few favourite days out that can be enjoyed from your Raylands base.
West Sussex Countryside
From the dramatic views of the South Downs National Park, to the white sandy beaches of West Wittering, Raylands Country Park is surrounded by some of the best scenery the UK has to offer. There are countless footpaths across the county where walkers – and their dogs – can soak up the tranquillity of the English countryside. On our doorstep is The Downs Link Bridleway, a disused railway line which has been transformed into a long-distance pathway for walkers, cyclists, and horse-riders.
A 30-minute drive takes you to the beautiful South Coast, with popular beaches in Worthing, Goring and Ferring. Further west along the coast you’ll find West Wittering, listed by the Telegraph as one of Britain’s greatest beaches. And don’t worry about going hungry – country pubs and seaside cafés can be found in abundance.
Towns to discover
West Sussex is home to a number of historic market towns. Our closest, at only three miles away, is the bustling town of Horsham. Alongside the popular shopping centre lies the Causeway, home to charming 17th century houses and a museum, near which a market can be found every Thursday and Saturday. For theatre and cinema enthusiasts, The Capitol offers a daily programme of entertainment.
Nearby Petworth is known for its National Trust stately home and park, and its vibrant art and antiques scene. A must-see for lovers of history, the well-conserved town of Arundel boasts a medieval castle and a large Roman Catholic cathedral.
For those seeking city-sights, both London and Brighton are within easy reach by train or car. And of course, for owners coming from abroad, Gatwick Airport is just a 20-minute drive away.
Family Fun
Many of our owners spend some of the year abroad and use Raylands as a UK base to spend time with their families. West Sussex offers many attractions to keep both you, and the grandchildren happy. Southwater Country Park is a stone’s throw away, offering a large selection of outdoor play areas, as well as orienteering and water sports activities. When everyone’s tired out you can admire the views from their lakeside café.
Fishers Adventure Farm Park, near Billingshurst, is another firm favourite for families. From tractor rides to climbing walls, and several upcoming seasonal events such as ‘Halloween Happy Hauntings’, Fishers is perfect for keeping little ones entertained.
Keen on swimming? There’s a large indoor swimming pool at Horsham’s Pavilions in the Park – complete with waterslides and outdoor rapids as well as an adult and baby pool.
